  His varied repertoire includes Popular tunes, Blues and Jazz standards, and Classical Music of different eras. He has toured with various outfits and done extensive studio work. While working primarily as a rhythm and blues guitarist, he recorded and performed with a large variety of artists including fellow guitarist Brian Setzer and the late Roy Buchanan. He has shared the stage with such greats as B.B. King, Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker and Albert Collins. Penney now devotes a large part of his performing to solo guitar styles.   He has released three recordings as a solo artist, "GOODNIGHT GUITAR", a collection of guitar lullabies that has received five children's product awards, newly released "GOODMORNING GUITAR" and "JAZZ SOLOS FOR ACOUSTIC GUITAR" a collection of compositions by Stan Solow. He is also featured artist on Oasis Records "BEST OF OASIS ACOUSTIC," and Mel Bay Publications "BEST OF ACOUSTIC GUITAR SOLOS 1999","JAZZ GUITAR 2000" and "BLUES GUITAR 2000."
